Field Day and End of School Parties
Thursday, May 20 Last year as we planned our calendar, our PTF parents expressed an interest in combining field day and the end of year parties for the convenience of our parents schedules. So, the plans were set in motion to coordinate the last day of school with both activities in mind. Field day and party events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end with early dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
Harry Harwell is serving as the volunteer coordinator for the activities for middle school and grades 1 - 5. This event is not possible without the help of our super parent volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help with set-up, supervision of an activity, snacks, or clean-up contact Harry at 634-4865. |

Yvonne Ross Compton
November 19, 1962 - April 24, 2010
This week we learned the sad news that one of our Central Ministries family members, Yvonne Ross Compton, went to be with the Lord last Saturday evening as the result of a brief illness. Many of you know her as Mrs. Yvonne who taught in the Central Learning Center program for the past 12 years. Her ministry touched the lives of so many children and their parents as she shared the love of Jesus with each one. The week of Easter Mrs. Yvonne told her co-workers how excited she was to share "the resurrection story" with her children. Her strong faith and desire to help others know the joy of salvation and a relationship with Christ are her living legacy. We were also blessed to know Mrs. Yvonne as a Central Day School parent. Her son Michael attended CDS from preschool through eighth grade and is now a junior at FACS. Your prayers are coveted for the Compton/Ross family. There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Yvonne at Central Church on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. in the Worship Center. All are welcome to attend. If you would like to send a card or write a note to the family, you may send it to school office and we will be glad to pass them along to the family. May you be encouraged by God's word or as Mrs. Yvonne would say, "the resurrection story", "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from Heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words." I Thessalonians 4:13-18.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Central Learning Center.

Home-School Connection: Teaching Shared Values
-from the desk of Principal Spice
The Bible is full of promises for those who choose to follow and obey God's commands. For example, in Deuteronomy 4 we read the following excerpts:
1 Hear now, O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you...6 Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations...9 Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Interestingly enough, the decrees and laws referred to in this passage are summarized in the Ten Commandments. 1. You shall have no other gods before me. 2. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above
or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 3. You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. 4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 5. Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. 6. You shall not murder. 7. You shall not commit adultery. 8. You shall not steal. 9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house. As you read from the Ten Commandments above, does it seem as if many of those commands have lost their relevance in today's cultural landscape? Contrast those standards and values with just about anything we observe from today's entertainment and news media. Quite a stark difference, wouldn't you agree? One of the ten commandments that has special application to parents and teachers is found in Exodus 20:12. "Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." There is a parallel passage in Ephesians 6:1-3 which reads, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother" (and other adults)-which is the first commandment with a promise- 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." (Ephesians 6: 1-3) It is my conviction that Paul's admonition for children to obey their parents (and others in authority), which "is the first commandment with a promise," has special significance for us today. Paul is revealing to us how important the character qualities of obedience, honor, and respect are in the development of future generations. May we be found faithful to teach these things to our children and to "their children after them." |
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8 |
